Topics getting the most attention in Sutter County public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Shanghai Bend Rapids Road Reopening Request
A sportsman asked the county to reopen the half-mile road to Shanghai Bend Rapids, closed since 2022, calling it the best fishing spot in Sutter County and offering to work with the Board on solutions.
Libraries, museum, and community services funding
The Board approved new operating hours for the two branch libraries to open more hours to the public and better align schedules between locations.
Meals on Wheels Waitlist and Rural Kitchens
The county donated $15,000 to the Yuba Sutter Food Bank — half for community food purchases and half for Beale Air Force Base — to address a local food shortage and keep food services flowing to residents, veterans, and service members.
Library Air Conditioning Vandalism
Vandals hit the county library, stealing copper from five air conditioning units and forcing the library to close for the week (the museum is open instead). Repairs will cost around $100,000, hitting the county's insurance rates.
Emerald Oaks elder care upgrades
A $750,000 state grant will pay for a generator, propane tanks, and septic repairs at Emerald Oaks, a 99-bed residential care facility for seniors on low incomes. No county general fund money; Emerald Oaks puts in a 10% match and records a five-year deed restriction.
